If you are in the Gainseville, FL area (Maybe for a UF football game or just passing through on a road trip), make sure to put Kanapaha Botanical Gardens on your list. The Gardens are on a 68 acre non profit facility made up of 24 major collections which are all visually accessible from a 1.5 mile paved walking trail.
Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is home to the largest bamboo forest in Florida and also the largest herb garden in the entire South East United States. Along with Bamboo, you will find giant Victoria water lilies and Asian snake arums during the warm months. There is so much to do from packing a lunch and enjoying outside in the cooler winter weather. There is a picnic area very close to the entrance building. Most of Kanapaha’s walkways are wheelchair accessible and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy with benches, gazebos, and other rest areas all around the grounds.
January is host to the Camellia Show, a two-day festival in which prize-winning camellias of all sizes, shapes, and colors are on display. If you are lucky you may even be able to purchase some.
